City of Athens officials say there is great interest from Greece and abroad, especially among professionals working in tourism, in taking part in the 4th Travel Trade Athens gathering, which aims to promote the Greek capital as a destination for conferences.

The conference is due to take place at the Hotel Grand Bretagne in Athens on October 2 to 3 and is being organized by the City of Athens Convention and Visitors Bureau. More than 90 representatives of tour operators, travel agencies and other tourism-related businesses are expected to take part in the event. Travel writers, mostly from Europe and North America, are also due to attend.

In a related development, the Regional Authority of Attica announced plans to redesign its corporate profile with the aim of helping promote Athens abroad as a tourist destination. The 20,000-euro project has been put to a tender.

The redesign is part of a program the regional authority is running between 2016 and 2020 to attract more visitors to Attica. The goal is to promote the varied attractions that greater Athens has to offer visitors and the many types of tourism that it can cater for, such as city breaks, family holidays, shopping trips and luxury vacations.
