Auction for TV licenses is set for August 30 amid concerns
The government Thursday moved a step closer to its controversial auction for nationwide TV channels, announcing that the competition will be held on August 30 and sending participation forms to the nine contenders for the four licenses that the auction will award.
Television executives, however, remain concerned about the procedure as the firm that will provide the software for the electronic auction was only appointed Thursday.
Initially the National Telecommunications and Post Commission (EETT) was supposed to conduct the auction, but the government asked software firm SingularLogic to step in after EETT said the existing system had to be modified to auction TV permits, a process that could take months.
SingularLogic gave the job to another firm, Business Exchanges, which on Thursday indicated that it would train officials to use the software but that they would be responsible for conducting the auction, not Business Exchanges.
