Fall pressure

This upcoming fall period is not expected to be an easy one – neither for Greek citizens nor the SYRIZA-Independent Greeks coalition government.

First of all, Greeks will have to face the reality of having to pay even more in taxes and social security contributions.

Meanwhile, the government will head back to the negotiating table with its partners and creditors as the country is subject to the second review of its third bailout program.

Following the dramatic events of last summer and their repercussions on Greece and its people, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and his team are now obliged to handle the next round of negotiations with realism.

Their efforts will have to focus on serving national – as opposed to short-term, partisan – interests.

In the past, the administration admitted to having nurtured “delusions.”

It will not be allowed to do the same this time around.
