Waging the wrong war

Archbishop Ieronymos, the head of the Church of Greece, is a shining example – and an exception – of reason and tranquillity in the country’s particularly toxic, current environment.

The Church of Greece, and by extension Greek society in general, are fortunate to have Archbishop Ieronymos in the position he is in today.

This is why the strategy adopted by certain members of the SYRIZA-led government, who appear set on taking the confrontation with the Greek Church to the very edge, is the wrong one.

By adopting such tactics, these government officials are essentially assisting in the reinforcement of extreme voices standing on the other side of the spectrum.

There is no doubt that the last thing the country needs at this point is for the Greek Church to be taken hostage by the forces of darkness.
