Doctors at state hospitals are expected to walk off the job from 1 p.m. through the end of the day’s shift on Wednesday.
The action has been called by the Federation of Greek Hospital Doctors (OENGE) in protest at the government’s policy regarding new appointments at public hospitals, collective labor contracts and social security contributions.
The union representing doctors at state hospitals in Athens and Piraeus is also taking part in the stoppage.
A rally is expected to take place outside the Health Ministry in Athens at 1.30 p.m. on Wednesday.
As a result of the stoppage, public hospital will be operating with emergency staff only.
