Men’s national team makes Eurovolley play-offs

The men’s national volleyball team scored three wins in three games in Belgium this weekend to make it five wins in a total of six games and advance to the play-offs for a spot in the finals of next year’s European Championship.

Greece beat Moldova 3-1 on Friday, before producing its best performance in recent years to down host Belgium 3-0 on Saturday and Ukraine by the same score on Sunday.

In the first round of the qualifying group that had taken place a week earlier in Greece, the national team had beaten Moldova and Ukraine but lost to Belgium.

Consequently Greece finished second in its group, behind Belgium and will fight with Spain at the October play-offs for a place in the 2017 Eurovolley. If Greece matches the performances of this weekend it should manage to return to the finals of the Championship, for the first time since 2009.
