Civil servants’ union calls protest over privatization plans
The civil servants' umbrella union, ADEDY, on Monday expressed its opposition to the government's plans to privatize several state organizations and called a protest rally for Tuesday evening when MPs debating a bill with the new reforms are to prepare for a vote in Parliament.
ADEDY said it opposed plans to "sell off" the Athens and Thessaloniki water boards, the Public Power Corporation, Attica Metro and the Hellenic Vehicle Industry (ELBO) among other organizations, as dictated by Greece's third international bailout.
"This is the biggest transfer of assets and the biggest selloff of national wealth in the country's history," ADEDY said in a statement.
The protest rally is to begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday in central Athens and culminate outside Parliament.
