Dogiakos removed from judiciary post

Just 20 days after being elected head of the Athens Appeals Court Prosecutor’s Office, Isidoros Dogiakos, was removed from the post Tuesday in a delayed response to a verdict reached prior to his election by the Supreme Court’s disciplinary panel deeming that he insulted the top court’s president, Vassiliki Thanou.

His removal, however, has raised questions as Dogiakos had secured permission from the Supreme Court to take part in the election despite the panel’s verdict, which, critics said, was backed by the coalition government – leading to accusations that it was intervening in the judiciary.
