Police crackdown on drug, car theft ring

Police have arrested at least seven members of a criminal gang – seven foreign nationals and one Greek – involved in drug dealing and car theft in a joint operation conducted in Ioannina, northwestern Greece, Aitoloacarnania, western Greece, and Attica late Thursday and early Friday.

According to reports, police confiscated 73 kilos of cannabis and three pistols, along with an undisclosed number of vehicles as well as hundreds of spare parts, license plates, documents, seals and car keys.

Separately, officers arrested a 27-year-old German woman and two Latvians, aged 24 and 27, after stopping them at Rhodes Airport and finding 9 kilograms of cocaine, 1.5 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine and 4,900 ecstasy tablets in their luggage.

They had arrived on the island on a flight from Berlin, according to police who said they were seeking a 45-year-old Israeli national who is believed to have been the intended recipient of the drugs.
