Council of State to convene over TV permits
The Council of State’s plenary session was to convene Wednesday and again on Friday to decide on the appeals lodged by TV stations against the constitutionality of a recent auction of broadcasting licenses.
Nikos Sakellariou, the president of Greece’s highest administrative court, came under fire last month after postponing a court session on the issue due to “efforts to create a certain climate” and concerns about attempts to influence the judgment of the court.
The decision lead two of the court’s members to resign from their union.
On Monday, TV channel employees staged a demonstration in central Athens, demanding job security and collective work contracts.
