Member of international people trafficking network nabbed

Police have arrested a member of an international ring trafficking people from Turkey to Greece, authorities said Friday.

The suspect, a 36-year-old Pakistani national, was arrested on Tuesday after a car chase in Aspropyrgos outside Athens, along with five Bangladeshis who did not have legal residence documents. Police said they are searching for three accomplices – also from Bangladesh.

Reports said the members of the network would traffic people from Turkey for a fee ranging between 1,000 and 1,200 US dollars. They would then be transported to areas near Athens where they would use public transport to arrive at destinations within Greece.

The arrested men have appeared before a prosecutor.
