Athens police break up big car racket

Police in Athens said on Tuesday they had broken a large racket that had been stealing cars, taking them apart and reassembling the parts from different vehicles for sale.

Following several months of investigation, police arrested six suspected members of the ring – five Greeks aged between 27 and 33 and a 20-year-old Albanian.

A raid on the warehouse where the racket members are alleged to have done their work turned up several vehicles and numerous spare parts while searches conducted at their homes turned up 6,300 euros in cash.

The six suspects faced a prosecutor on Tuesday while police are seeking a number of accomplices.
