Greeks among the hardest-working in the eurozone

Greece is joint third in the eurozone in terms of how many hours per week its residents work, as Greeks put in an average of 22.2 hours a week, according to an unpublished study by Alexander Bick of Arizona State University, Bettina Brueggemann of Ontario’s McMaster University, and Nicola Fuchs-Schundeln of Frankfurt’s Goethe University, revealed on Tuesday by Bloomberg.
Portugal and Austria clocked 22.7 hours/week, while in the US the figure came to 26.1 hours and in Switzerland 25.1.
The average rates take into account all forms of labor, people on leave and those actively seeking work – not the long-term unemployed.
