Strike called by civil servants’ union on November 24

The civil servants’ umbrella union ADEDY on Thursday called a nationwide strike for November 24 to highlight its objections to planned changes to labor laws that the government is set to start discussing with representatives of the country’s international creditors on Friday.

The changes to labor laws are expected to introduce greater flexibility, making it easier for employers to hire and fire staff and making it harder to hold strike action.

ADEDY also objects to ongoing cuts to pensions and other state benefits that have been imposed as part of the country’s third bailout.
