German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Friday appeared to oppose the launch of any discussion regarding Greek debt relief, in a meeting with Greek PM Alexis Tsipras, sources said on Friday. The two leaders met on Friday ahead of a EU summit meeting, and according to sources, Merkel referred the Greek government to the Eurogroup, the institutions and the IMF regarding the debt issue.

The discussion also centered on the refugee and migrant crisis, sources said, with Merkel noting certain delays on the Greek side.

Earlier in the day, Tsipras held talks with French President Francois Hollande, who, according to government sources, appeared to be more supportive of Greece.

The French government expressed its willingness for a solution to be found regarding Greece’s debt, while recognizing the need to halt the sentiment of ongoing uncertainty in the country, sources added.
