Four arrested over illegal adoption
Authorities in Komotini, northeastern Greece, have arrested four Bulgarian nationals in connection to an illegal adoption. Those arrested are the baby’s biological mother and father, aged 32 and 36 respectively, a 41-year-old Bulgarian woman with whom the couple stayed in Greece, and another Bulgarian woman, aged 37, who accompanied the mother to hospital in Katerini for the birth.
Police are also seeking an unidentified Bulgarian man who allegedly persuaded the pregnant woman to give her child up for adoption in Greece.
According to the case file, the unidentified Bulgarian had approached a Greek couple and told them he could arrange the illegal adoption for them.
