Case files against Varoufakis, two ministers sent to Parliament

Greek prosecutors on Thursday forwarded to Parliament three case files relating to two members of the current cabinet and former finance minister Yanis Varoufakis.

The file against Varoufakis follows a legal suit that was lodged against him for high treason in connection with his decisions during his term as finance minister last year which led to political and economic upheaval and, ultimately, the signing of a third bailout for Greece.

The other two case files sent to Parliament are against Health Minister Andreas Xanthos and Alternate Health Minister Pavlos Polakis for violation of duty in connection with state hospitals in Kozani which, local residents claim, are unable to deal with emergency cases due to understaffing.

Members of Parliament will be called upon to vote on whether the parliamentary immunity of the three politicians should be lifted.
