Hard-fought away wins for AEK and Aris hoopsters

AEK remained joint top of the Basket League as it came from 11 points down to beat host PAOK on Saturday for its first major victory in the league this season.

AEK won 78-71 thanks to a strong last period in Thessaloniki and has made it six victories out of six games.

The same record is shared by Olympiakos, that thrashed Apollon Patras 83-55 in Piraeus on Sunday but had Dimitris Agravanis taken off injured – a bad loss ahead of a week with two Euroleague games against Barcelona and Panathinaikos.

The Greens had no problems against Kolossos Rhodes on Sunday winning 80-65 at home, before their tough week in Europe at Real Madrid on Wednesday and with Olympiakos on Friday.

Korivos and Aris produced one of the season’s most memorable games in the Basket League on Saturday, with the Thessaloniki club eventually beating its host at Amaliada after the second overtime.

Aris won 99-94 after coming back from a terrible start, with Korivos leading 15-0 and 23-4. However the experience and quality of Aris made the difference over the spirited players of coach Dinos Kalambakos.

In other games on Saturday Doxa Lefkadas edged out fellow promoted Kymi 84-81, Rethymno saw off Trikala 84-56 and Promitheas Patras rose to a surprising seventh at the table swith its 64-61 win over Lavrio.
