Greek civil servants, ferry workers to strike Thursday
Civil servants will be walking off the job and holding a protest rally in downtown Athens on Thursday, after their union, ADEDY, on Monday called for a general strike.
The union is mainly protesting planned reforms to labor laws and the operation of the civil service.
It is calling on the government to cease all assessments of workers and administrative structures that could lead to streamlining, abolish all laws that resulted in lower salaries and pensions, protect collective bargaining and stop all forms of flexible labor.
Workers will be gathering at Klafthmonos Square on Stadiou Street at 11 a.m. to march to Parliament.
Meanwhile, ferry services across the country will be canceled on Thursday due to a strike by seamen also protesting pensions cuts and job insecurity.
