Defending Greece’s national interests takes courage and determination, but also broad political consensus.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has recently started down a slippery slope with his intensely provocative comments, which, unfortunately, are also being echoed by the opposition in his troubled country.
Greece’s partners and allies have begun to understand how serious the situation is, but so far appear reluctant to take a solid stance on the matter and are opting to keep their distance.
It is a mistake, however, for Athens to contribute toward the escalation of this situation by responding with its own barbs and strongly worded comments, as they add nothing positive to the discussion.
What is important is for light to be shed on Turkey’s aggressive behavior and steps to be taken to avert a possible accident.
