Tremendous responsibility

When it comes to dealing with major national issues, Greece should follow the example of Cyprus.

Right now, it appears very likely that Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras will be holding bilateral talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. If this does actually happen, it would appear that the Cyprus issue, along with all aspects of Greek-Turkish relations, will land on the negotiating table.

It should go without saying, therefore, that prior to any such meeting, what the prime minister needs to do is either call a meeting of political leaders or arrange a series of one-to-one meetings with party leaders so that they can be informed on the government’s positions and consulted.

The simple fact is that such talks are a tremendous responsibility for one person to take on single-handedly, without some support from the political forces.
