Lawyer arrested for forging 1.1 million euro will

A 53-year-old lawyer and a 48-year-old female accomplice stand accused of forging a will whose value exceeded 1.1 million euros, authorities said.

According to investigators, the scam involved real estate assets and bank deposits left behind by an elderly man who had no known relatives and had died alone in his Athens home at the start of the year.

Police discovered the man’s body in an advanced state of decomposition and had not ruled out the possibility of foul play when they received a tipoff in the spring that a large withdrawl had been made from the deceased man’s bank account.

This tipoff led to the discovery that the lawyer had drafted a fake will, which had been validated by an Athens court, naming the 48-year-old woman as the sole beneficiary of the man’s deposits, two apartments and a private parking lot. A third suspect, a 42-year-old man, is also being sought for allegedly acting as a witness to the will.
