New master plan for neglected oasis

After years of neglect caused by underfunding, a new master plan, set to be completed by the summer of 2017, promises a new lease on life for Attica’s biggest metropolitan park. Bordering the less affluent areas of Ilion, Kamatero and Aghioi Anargyroi, the park covers an area of 110 hectares, or seven times that of the National Garden in central Athens. It is estimated the park draws close to 1 million visitors per year. The park was visited Saturday by Alternate Environment Minister Sokratis Famelos. [ANA]
