Athens-Patra national road nearly finished
Work to make improvements to the Athens-Patra highway is on course for completion by March, officials say, but drivers will face much higher toll charges once the 2-billion-euro project is finished.
The work on improving the national road connecting the Greek capital and the western port is 85 percent done. A few days ago the last of the 29 new tunnels being constructed was finished, marking the last major part of a project that began more than five years ago.
It currently costs 6.40 euros to drive from Athens to Patra on the national road but this will jump to 11.50 euros from April, once the new highway is open to drivers. The cost works out at 0.064 euros per kilometer.
