Makedonia Airport runway works postponed until October

The Infrastructure Ministry has bowed to pressure from the Fraport-led consortium and confirmed on Tuesday that it is postponing the start of works on a new runway at Makedonia Airport in Thessaloniki, northern Greece.

The aim is to avoid having works at the airport during the tourism season. Therefore it will not begin in January but in October instead, after the peak of the tourism season and the Thessaloniki International Fair, which takes place in September.

Fraport had threatened to abandon the operation of the 14 regional airports altogether.
