Varoufakis takes aim at Tsipras’s legacy
After claiming on Tuesday that the German Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble had decided to oust the New Democracy government in June 2014, Yanis Varoufakis on Wednesday predicted Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’s legacy will be tarnished by his policy of essentially giving up everything to the country’s creditors in the name of the next bailout installment.
Speaking to Vima FM radio, Varoufakis, who was finance minister of Greece from January to July 2015, described the demand for the country to achieve a 3.5 percent primary budget surplus as “ridiculous,” and repeated his criticism of Berlin’s stance vis-a-vis Antonis Samaras’s New Democracy government.
“I always thought that Berlin’s handling of Samaras was unacceptable,” he said.
