Athens doesn’t want friction but it ‘won’t yield to pressure’

In the wake of a spike in Turkish violations in the Aegean, Greek Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias said on Thursday that Athens did not want tensions but "will not yield to pressure from anyone."

"We are a country that believes in good neighborly relations," Kotzias said. "We do not want friction with anyone but we will not yield to pressure from anyone."

He added that Greece is a country that "believes in international rule of law" and "promotes good relations with our neighbors."

Kotzias's words came after Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Thursday hit out at his Greek peer Panos Kammenos after the latter flew over the islets of Imia in the Aegean, indicating that an "undesired accident" could have undesirable consequences on bilateral relations.
