Police suspect contract killer

A police source told Kathimerini Thursday that the murder of Vassilis Grivas, the 47-year-old shot dead outside a school in Glyka Nera, northeast of Athens, was most likely a contract killing.

Grivas is said to have expressed concern recently about an attempt to kill him. His murder is being investigated by two police departments, one that deals with homicide and the other with blackmail. Witnesses have told police that three of the four suspected assailants looked like bouncers.

Police believe that Grivas’s murder may be linked to disputes between rival groups of bouncers. However, witnesses added that the man who shot the victim a total of six times had a slighter build, which leads officers to believe that he was a hired hit man, possibly from abroad.
