Child’s Smile issues warns about fraudsters

The Hamogelo tou Paidiou (Child’s Smile) charity issued a statement Tuesday, warning the public to beware of fraudsters posing as representatives of the organization following a burglary in Thessaloniki believed to have been carried out by someone who used its name to gain entry.

The Child’s Smile noted that it never sends representatives door-to-door nor does it seek donations over the phone. The organization was put on alert after a woman visited a resident of the northern port city’s Triandria neighborhood claiming to represent the organization.

She asked the resident personal questions, however, rather than briefing her on the charity as she had originally asked to do. The property was burgled a few days later.
