New Democracy slams public broadcaster ERT

New Democracy has slammed public broadcaster ERT for allegedly equating pro-European centrist President-elect Emmanuel Macron with his far-right rival Marine Le Pen during its coverage of last Sunday’s French national elections.

In a statement issued Tuesday, the conservative party singled out a journalist for saying on the network’s morning news bulletin on Monday that “between two very bad candidates, the slightly worse [candidate] won: the representative of the banks and of the system.”

In a statement later Tuesday, the journalist, Nikos Angelidis, said his comments had been taken out of context. The centrist To Potami party also leveled similar criticism against the state-run station’s coverage.
