Police deputy director arrested for bribery and blackmail
A police deputy director was arrested by internal affairs officers Tuesday on multiple charges of bribery and blackmail of businessmen. Investigating officers were led to the suspect after a complaint was filed by a businessman who claimed he was being blackmailed to pay money in order to avoid visits by state financial inspectors and auditors.
The victim said he was also told that he had to pay money in exchange for receiving tips of imminent visits by inspectors. Police arrested the deputy director after he was found in possession of marked bills from the businessman.
Another two policemen, a lieutenant and a sergeant, have also been implicated in the case.
