ATM robbery: pistol found, suspect charged

TAGS: Crime

A second handgun used in an armed robbery at the Agricultural University of Athens this week was found Thursday. The firearm, a Zastava pistol, was discovered in one of the toilets at the university.

Police also recovered a T-shirt and mobile phone, which they hope will help them in their efforts to identify one of the two men involved in the raid on an armored car that was dispatched to refill an ATM at the institution on Wednesday morning.

The other suspect was arrested as he tried to run away. The two robbers had intended to make off on a motorcycle but one of the guards at the university knocked it over. The suspect who was arrested has refused to cooperate with the authorities, even refusing to allow his fingerprints to be taken.

He was charged yesterday by a first instance prosecutor with robbery, carrying a firearm and resisting arrest.
