Sports Digest: Olympiakos ends talks with Garde

SOCCER: Olympiakos appears to have stopped negotiations with French manager Remi Garde and is turning to other options for its bench.

WATER POLO: Thursday’s fourth game of the final series for the women’s Greek league, which Olympiakos won 9-8 at Vouliagmeni, was marked by unprecedented violence for the sport in Greece. Dozens of Olympiakos fans stormed into the surrounding area of the swimming pool without even having tickets for the game, chanted vulgar words at Vouliagmeni coach Alexia Kammenou and threatened her brother, Panos, the National Defense Minister – who was present at the stands – saying “Olympiakos is the state.” The minister responded with an obscene gesture. On Friday Kammenos attributed his reaction to the fans swearing at his family and himself.

TRACK & FIELD: An as yet unnamed female Greek athlete has tested positive for a banned substance upon the retesting of samples from 2009, Kathimerini understands. Her sample was taken from an event in which she failed to make her mark, although she is a leading figure in her discipline in Greece.
