Pitsiorlas disputes PPC-CMEC deal

Shortly after Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’s return from China, Deputy Economy Minister Stergios Pitsiorlas disputed the agreement between Public Power Corporation and China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) for the construction of a lignite-powered unit at Meliti, near Florina in western Macedonia.

Asked on Thursday why there was no meeting with CMEC during Tsipras’s China trip, Pitsiorlas stated that the upgrading and sale of lignite units should not be done with direct concessions, saying, “The proper process is an open tender.”
