Sports Digest: Green hoopsters thrash AEK

BASKETBALL: Panathinaikos has advanced to the finals of the Basket League after thrashing AEK 105-67 away on Monday to clinch the best-of-five semifinal series 3-1. Olympiakos hosts Aris on Thursday and victory will take the Reds to the finals too.

TENNIS: Greek champion Maria Sakkari chose to retire from her first-round match against Japan’s Misaki Doi at the Nuremberg Cup, after losing the first set 7-6. She took a medical time-out feeling back pains and decided to withdraw in order to protect herself ahead of the French Open which begins on Monday in Paris.

SOCCER: Spanish top-flight club Leganes has reportedly agreed with Greece defender Dimitris Siovas to buy his rights from Olympiakos, using the option included in his loan deal with the Piraeus club. Leganes is said to have agreed with the central defender on a four-year contract.

TRACK & FIELD: Despina Zapounidou will represent Greece at the 20 kilometers walk at the World Championship in London this summer, after clocking 1 hour, 34 minutes and 24 seconds at the European Race Walking Championship at Podebrady, in the Czech Republic, on Sunday.
