Engineers have fixed a railway line near Thessaloniki, northern Greece, where a train derailed earlier this month leaving three passengers dead and around 10 injured, the CEO of Hellenic Railways Organization (OSE) Constantinos Petrakis has said.

In comments made to Praktoreio 104.9 FM on Thursday, Petrakis said that the remaining repair works will take between 8-12 days.

The train carrying 70 passengers and five crew was heading from Athens to Thessaloniki when it derailed in the town of Adendro, 37 km (23 miles) from the northern port city.

At least two carriages crashed into the ground floor of a house, ripping through its walls. Others toppled onto their sides, their windows smashed.

An interim report into the incident found the accident was caused by excessive speed. A final report is still pending.
