ATHEX: Banks buoy index higher

Wednesday’s significant stock losses were partially offset on Thursday, as banks staged a somewhat solitary rebound.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 771.82 points, adding 0.76 percent to Wednesday’s 766.03 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index expanded 0.74 percent to 2,061.27 points.

The banks index advanced 3.39 percent, with Alpha growing 5.39 percent.

In total 41 stocks grew, 50 declined and 20 stayed put.

Turnover reached 109 million euros, up from Wednesday’s 107.2 million.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange strengthened 0.43 percent to 76.85 points.
