Remote islands may see ferry services downgraded

Ferry links to Greece’s remote islands are at risk of being severely downgraded in the next few years unless the right planning is made immediately and the necessary funds for subsidizing such routes are secured, coastal shippers warn.

They add that the solution of covering the islands’ transport needs through new connecting services (whereby large vessels visit bigger islands and passengers can board smaller ships to remoter destinations from there) is neither cheaper nor does it secure better coverage of local needs.
