Free tickets for ‘Madama Butterfly’ snapped up
Hundreds of free tickets made available to unemployed playgoers by the Greek National Opera for the dress rehearsal of Giacomo Puccini’s “Madama Butterfly” were snapped up in just a few hours, organizers said over the weekend.
The annual scheme, first launched by the GNO five years ago, will enable 1,500 people to watch Puccini’s romantic tragedy at the iconic Herod Atticus Theater on the southwestern slope of the Acropolis, on Tuesday.
Directed by Hugo de Ana, who has also designed the sets and costumes, the production stars Cellia Costea, Stefano Secco, Dimitris Paksoglou and Dionysios Sourbis, and others, while the conductor is Lukas Karytinos.
