Hotel projects look set set to gain traction in the coming months

Fifteen new investment initiatives by business groups in the tourism sector for the creation, expansion and modernization of hotel units at popular Greek destinations are currently unfolding. Kathimerini understands that local authorities have already issued a series of permits for the implementation of the investment programs, while other projects are well under way.

This Thursday Zeus International and US chain Wyndham Hotel Group will launch two new hotels in Loutraki, near Corinth: the Wyndham Loutraki Poseidon Resort and Ramada Loutraki Poseidon Resort. Wyndham Loutraki has 107 suites and Ramada Loutraki boasts 196 bungalows. They both have five restaurants and bars, four indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and various sports facilities.

Porto Carras SA has been granted a license to renovate and modernize its Meliton unit at Halkidiki, central Macedonia, while Inestia is entering the Myconos market with a new five-star hotel, Branco Mykonos, through its Intra Hotels subsidiary.

More Meni Ike is planning to develop a five-star hotel on the island of Kos, Forest Resorts is mulling the construction of a five-star unit at Kastoria, northwestern Greece, and I.B.D.P.s.r.o. has planned for a 132-bed hotel at Platanias, close to Hania on Crete. On Corfu, the group that also operates the five-star Kontokali Beach Resort & Spa and Aeolos Beach Hotel is planning a third unit on the island.

Mandraki SA has secured environmental clearance to expand its existing four-star unit on Skiathos, the 125 bed Mandraki Village. The Ministry of Culture has approved the archaeological terms for Kassandra Bay SA’s application for a new five-star, 182-bed unit in the Vassilias area of Skiathos.

The ministry has also issued environmental clearance for Akti Aghiou Ioanni SA to implement a project including a five-star hotel and 120 tourist residences at Aghios Ioannis in Halkidiki. However, it has rejected the proposed location for an open-air theater. It further approved a request from Stella Beach SA to extend its hotel unit at Hersonissos on Crete.

Daidalos SA received a license to expand its four-star Daidalos Hotel on Kos, Tsouramanis SA’s Adonis Hotel in the city of Patra got a license for its renovation and upgrading, and Antonis Moraitis has bagged a permit to complete its unfinished three-star unit on the island of Milos.
