ATHEX: Minor drop for most stocks after early rise

Morning gains gave way to small losses for the majority of Greek stocks on Wednesday as traders had their eyes firmly fixed on developments at the conference on Greece in Frankfurt.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 775.24 points, shedding 0.10 percent from Tuesday’s 776.02 points. The large-cap FTSE 25 index contracted 0.13 percent to 2,061.55 points.

The banks index grabbed 0.25 percent, driven higher by Eurobank (up 2.27 percent) and to a lesser extent by National (0.97 percent) and Piraeus (0.51 percent), just as Alpha Bank declined 1.44 percent.

Hellenic Petroleum, set to team up in a consortium with ExxonMobil and Total for hydrocarbon surveying, advanced 2.81 percent, while GEK Terna, which landed the new Iraklio airport deal, improved 2.02 percent.

Grivalia Properties declined 6.46 percent, Aegean Air gave up 3.48 percent and Titan Cement lost 2.02 percent.

In total 45 stocks reported gains, 61 sustained losses and 30 ended unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 180.4 million euros, up from Tuesday’s 61.9 million.

The general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange in Nicosia advanced 0.64 percent to 77.16 points.
