Tourism makes a big contribution toward employment in Greece and this has kept rising over the last 30 years, according to a study by the Institute of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE). It also extends across the country’s regions, including lesser visited areas.

The study shows that in the last three decades employment in tourism has increased at an average annual rate of 2.8 percent.

The rise has strengthened since 2014, when the swing of tourism into an essentially extrovert and internationally competitive sector was completed.

Last year employment in tourism reached a historic high of 341,200 workers, up 31.6 percent on three years earlier.
