Sports Digest: Greek women make World Cup play-offs
VOLLEYBALL: The women’s national team has advanced to the play-offs for qualification to the World Cup as it finished second in its pool in Croatia thanks to its 3-1 victory over Austria on Sunday. It will enter the play-off round on August 22-27 for a spot in the 2018 finals.
SOCCER: Apollon Smyrnis has won the Football League title and earned promotion to the Super League along with second-placed Lamia. On Sunday it beat visiting Hania 3-0 in Athens.
VOLLEYBALL: The men’s national team finished the first half of its World League group games with the Group Three tournament in Spain where it lost 3-0 to Qatar on Friday, 3-1 to Mexico on Saturday and 3-1 to Spain on Sunday.
