Tourism accounted for more than two-thirds of new jobs last month

The tourism sector (including conference tourism) accounts for seven out of 10 new jobs created in May, according to the Labor Ministry’s Ergani hiring database.

The high expectations for record tourism arrivals this summer and the strong seasonal character of the country’s labor market resulted in the creation of 89,534 new jobs last month, of which 42,871 were in the accommodation sector, 19,952 in food service and 2,389 in leasing and hiring activities.

In total the labor market expanded by 215,304 jobs in the first five months of the year, making it the best January-May period since 2001.
