Greek PM congratulates Labour’s Corbyn on election result
Greece’s leftist Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras has hailed the Labour Party’s showing in Britain’s general election Thursday as a “great outcome” as results stripped British Prime Minister Theresa May’s Conservative Party of its parliamentary majority.
“A Left that is bold can inspire and mobilize the people,” Tsipras said in a tweet Friday congratulating his “friend” Jeremy Corbyn.
Confident of winning a landslide victory, May had called the snap vote to strengthen her hand in the European Union divorce negotiations. However, a resurgent Labour Party denied her an outright win, throwing Britain into political turmoil as no clear winner emerged.
