Dangerous ingratitude

Greece has been slated to receive an additional 970.7 million euros in funding from the European Union-backed Partnership Agreement for 2014-20, known here as ESPA, in order to deal with some of the many problems that have been created as a result of the crisis.

This new injection of funds comes on top of the 20.4 billion euros that had initially been approved for Greece to receive over the program period.

This is something that all the euroskeptics should bear in mind. When they go around talking about how Greece would be better off outside the eurozone and the European Union, they should remember that the basic reason why Greece can achieve anything, why it has an education system and why it has infrastructure is because of money from the European Union.

The country could benefit even more, meanwhile, if it was better at absorbing these funds and managing them in a timely and effective fashion.
