Self-styled anarchists attack squad car

A group of around 20 men attacked a police patrol car carrying a suspect behind the Evelpidon Street court complex in downtown Athens on Thursday, causing the officers to take flight, Skai reported.

According to reports, the men did know the suspect, who had been apprehended earlier in the day, when they attacked the squad car and had their sights set on preventing the police officers from doing their job.

The two officers in the vehicle ran off as they were outnumbered. One of them is being treated for injuries after being hit with sticks. The officers radioed for help from the DIAS motorcycle squad, which dispersed the protesters before they could release the suspect from the squad car.
