Notaries end strike after eight months

Notaries who had been walking off the job every Wednesday when foreclosure auctions are usually held because of protest action that had been targeting them on Friday decided to call off their protracted action.

The union representing the country’s notaries said it was stopping the action despite the government’s failure to take “all the necessary measures to ensure the smooth running and legality of the dispensation of justice.”

“Unfortunately, after eight months, no political body or social institution deemed it worthwhile to tackle this problem or even propose a solution,” it said. Earlier this month, the union had condemned the use of “thuggish tactics” by groups protesting foreclosures at Greek courts.
