Greece can implement program with or without IMF, says Tsakalotos

Greece can proceed with the implementation of the bailout program with or without the participation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), says Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos.

According to Greek media reports, Tsakalotos told a panel on Thursday night at the Elliott School of International Affairs at George Washington University, discussing the future of Europe, that “it is very difficult to work with an organization (IMF) that has one leg in and the other outside."

Referring to Europe, the Greek minister said that he recently told the Eurogroup that the rules must be changed so that inequalities are tackled.

“No one laughed about that,” he reportedly said, adding that was an indication that the issue was moving forward.

He also reportedly said that French President Emmanuel Macron understands the issue
