ATHEX: Quiet session at bourse as market awaits developments

Activity on the Greek stock market was subdued on Tuesday, with many investors holding off until they get a clearer picture on Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras’s visit to the United States and the start of the third bailout review in earnest when the heads of the creditors’ missions arrive in Athens next week.

The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 761.85 points, shedding 0.51 percent from Monday’s 765.72 points. The large-cap FTSE-26 index contracted 0.43 percent to close at 2,011.28 points, while the small-cap index expanded 0.74 percent.

Banks had a mixed day, with their index adding 0.07 percent. Eurobank rose 1.47 percent, Alpha was up 0.57 percent, National fell 1.64 percent and Attica lost 3.39 percent.

In total 40 stocks posted gains, 59 took losses and 20 closed unchanged.

Turnover amounted to 39.1 million euros, down from Monday’s 44.3 million.

In Nicosia the general index of the Cyprus Stock Exchange advanced 0.50 percent to 73.84 points.
